Mud Season is the bumper between winter and summer in our little mountain town, Steamboat Springs. Once the festivities of the ski area’s closing weekend are behind us, spring is in front and it will absolutely bring the fun with it. There is not as much traffic from people in town as lots of locals make a run for far off beaches. With the closing of the ski area the town does not receive as many visitors either. So why visit during the Mud season?
As long as the weather cooperates there are a variety of outdoor activities to enjoy. Lower elevation trails can be dry enough for hiking and biking. Road cycling is that much better with less traffic. Ice off at the local lakes and the spawning season of the trout population makes for incredible fishing opportunities. Also weather never matters for a trip to Strawberry Park Hot Springs or a soak at the Old Town Hot Springs.
As a community with a resort, not a resort community many establishments stay open though this slower time for year. This also means plenty of available parking to go find all special deals everywhere. Many restaurants have extended food and drink specials. Happy hours abound. Local retailers are clearing out their old inventory and the you can bet on the better bargains! With lots of shops to choose from you can get a hold of winter gear and spring supplies.
During this off season time there are of course lower prices for a vacation rental. A great time to try out that higher end property that you have wanted to stay in but may have been out of reach. So what are you waiting for? Come on up and get knee deep in mud season!
